Who we are

Growth that is rooted, not borrowed.

Our name, Mayine, carries intention. Everything we do is oriented towards growth that is rooted, not performance that is borrowed. We do not measure success in grades alone. We measure it in the quality of the identity a young person carries into the rest of their life.

The Teencoaching™ methodology is an original body of work, built in Africa, for African young people, from African intelligence.

Our programmes span pre-teens through to young adults, with a dedicated parent track, because a young person cannot be developed in isolation from the family that shaped them.

We are based in East London, Eastern Cape, and work nationally through our Licensed Associate network, with camps in East London and Johannesburg and digital programmes accessible across Africa and beyond.

Our philosophy

Identity is the foundation of everything else.

Academic performance, emotional health, career direction and family relationships all flow from how clearly a young person knows who they are.

Our indigenous-rooted methodology draws on African intelligence, ancestral knowing and the lived reality of young people navigating adolescence in a complex, fast-changing world.

I

Indigenous intelligence first

We build from African ways of knowing, placing indigenous intelligence at the centre of development work, not the margins.

II

Identity before performance

When a young person knows who they are, academic performance, good decisions and emotional health follow.

III

The family is part of the work

Every child belongs to a family, and every family has its own patterns. We work with the whole system, not the young person in isolation.

IV

Informal education that strengthens formal education

We use coaching and informal education to build self-awareness and personal responsibility, so young people enter formal education and society with purpose.

Our holistic focus

What we build in every young person.

We help young people not only achieve success but sustain it, on a foundation of emotional intelligence, intellectual growth and a grounded sense of identity.

01

Mindset of Academic Excellence

Discipline, self-belief and ownership of learning. We go beyond study skills to the identity beneath them.

02

Family dynamics

Understanding how family patterns shape confidence and choices, and learning to work with them rather than be controlled by them.

03

Informed decision-making

Navigating identity, career, relationships and values from a grounded inner compass rather than outside pressure.

04

Emotional wellbeing

Age-appropriate emotional support at every stage, from pre-teen to young adult, with tools for self-regulation and resilience.

05

Work ethic, talent and purpose

Understanding that success is built on discipline and purpose, not talent alone, and building evidence of who they are becoming.

06

Self-leadership

Leading one's own life with intention: the driver of one's development, not a passenger in it.

Core programme

Mindset of Academic Excellence™

MAE™ is not a tutoring programme. It is a coaching approach that builds the inner foundation from which academic performance, self-leadership and identity grow, applied across five phases from pre-teen to first year of tertiary study.

Phase onePre-teen, Grades 5–7Ages 10–13

High school readiness

Before high school demands set in, we build identity, self-awareness and the inner frameworks that will carry a young person through the academic and social challenges ahead.

Phase twoEarly teen, Grades 8–9Ages 13–15

Structured independence

Self-reliant study habits, first conversations about subject choices and careers, and learning to see academics as a tool they choose, not a system they survive.

Phase threeSenior teen, Grades 10–11Ages 16–17

Tertiary readiness

Academic performance, a clearer career direction, and building a profile that speaks beyond marks.

Phase fourMatric, Grade 12A distinct programme

Finishing strong

Not new foundations, but anchoring what is already there and crossing the finish line with focus, identity intact and results that reflect who the young person truly is.

Phase fivePost-matric, first yearAges 18–19

Navigating the transition

Carrying identity and self-leadership into campus life, with academic confidence and the ability to self-regulate without outside structure.

MAE™ is delivered through one-on-one coaching, group coaching, and camps and retreats.

How we work

A complete ecosystem.

Coaching, camps and retreats

One-on-one coaching, group coaching, and residential camps for teen boys, teen girls and pre-teens, with a closing feedback session for parents.

Parent programmes

Parenting Teens workshops, parent circles and practical guides that help parents support their teenager's growth at home.

Practitioner certification

Three ICF-accredited tracks: CIAT™ (Certified Identity-Anchored Teencoach™), CIAP™ (Certified Instinct-Anchored Parenting Coach™) and CIAC™ (Certified Identity-Anchored Career Coach™).

Licensed Associate network

Certified coaches working across South Africa under the methodology and trademark framework, with compulsory supervision, including in schools through Teencoaching-in-Residence™.

Safeguarding runs through everything we do. A parent or guardian is always involved first, what a young person shares stays confidential unless they are at risk, and our coaches know when to refer to a psychologist or social worker.

"We do not fix young people. We create the conditions in which they can remember who they already are, and build from there."
