Our Programmes

Nomveliso Mbanga Teencoaching™ — rooting young people in identity

An overview of who we work with, what we do, and the philosophy that underpins every programme, session, and interaction within the Mayine ecosystem. Everything here is grounded in the same baNtu-rooted methodology — from pre-teen to young adult, and the parents who shape their world.

The Foundation

What Is
Teencoaching™?

Nomveliso Mbanga Teencoaching™ is an ICF CCE-accredited coaching methodology created from within an African, baNtu-rooted epistemological framework. It is an original body of work — not an adaptation of Western coaching models — built entirely for the development of young people.

"A young person who knows who they are cannot be told who to be. Identity is not something we give young people — it is something we help them remember."

Our methodology is practised by trained, licensed coaches under the Nomveliso Mbanga Teencoaching™ trademark. Every programme, group, and delivery format is grounded in the same philosophy — because we understand that every behaviour has root causes, every child belongs to a family, and every family has its own unique development patterns.

Our mission is to use coaching and informal education to promote self-awareness and personal responsibility in young people — so that they become the drivers of their own development and conscious contributors in an ever-changing world.

Our Objectives

Every programme within the Mayine ecosystem is oriented towards the same core outcomes for the young people we serve:

  • IAnchor young people in a clear, grounded sense of who they are — their identity, intelligence, and cultural roots
  • IIDevelop the emotional and intellectual capacity to navigate the pressures of adolescence and early adulthood
  • IIIBuild self-leadership — the ability to make intentional choices and take responsibility for one's own growth
  • IVStrengthen family systems by supporting parents in understanding and showing up for their young people
  • VGrow a generation of young Africans who are purposeful, self-aware, and rooted in indigenous intelligence

The Framework

Five Pillars Across
All Programmes

These five pillars are not separate interventions — they are woven through every programme, group, and session across the entire Mayine ecosystem. Every young person, parent, and professional we work with is held within this same framework, regardless of their entry point.

I

Emotional Intelligence

Understanding, expressing, and navigating emotions — developing healthy emotional responses and strong relationships across all life stages

II

Intellectual Growth

Expanding how young people understand and own their intelligence — beyond academic performance to true, lasting intellectual confidence

III

Indigenous Identity & Cultural Grounding

Rooting development in the young person's cultural and ancestral intelligence — knowing where you come from as the foundation for knowing who you are

IV

Family Dynamics

Understanding how family patterns shape identity and behaviour — and learning to work with the family system, not against it

V

Self-Leadership Excellence

Building the capacity to lead one's own life with purpose and intention — to be the conscious driver of one's own development

Our Primary Groups

Pre-Teens & Teenagers

This is the heart of everything we do. We work with young people from Grade 5 through to Grade 12 — and into the post-matric transition — across five distinct developmental phases. Each phase has its own focus, its own season, and its own approach. Select a phase below to see how we show up at each stage.

Ages 10 – 13

Pre-Teen Phase

The Foundation Season

The pre-teen years are where identity begins to form — quietly, often without the young person being fully aware. This is one of the most important developmental windows we work in. We help pre-teens build a strong sense of self before the pressures of adolescence arrive, so that when those pressures come, they have a foundation to stand on.

Our work with pre-teens is age-appropriate, culturally grounded, and playful — meeting young people exactly where they are, and building the emotional and identity tools they will need for the years ahead.

What We Offer at This Phase

Identity Foundations

Building an early, positive sense of self — who they are, where they come from, and what makes them uniquely themselves

Emotional Literacy

Learning to name, understand, and express emotions in healthy ways — before the emotional intensity of the teenage years arrives

Cultural Grounding

Connecting young people to their ancestral and cultural roots as a source of pride, strength, and belonging

Mindset of Academic Excellence™

High School Readiness — building the internal frameworks for learning, discipline, and intellectual confidence before high school begins

Group Coaching

Peer-based group coaching sessions that build community, shared language, and collective identity development

Residential Retreats

Immersive retreat experiences designed specifically for pre-teens — facilitated by licensed Mayine Teencoaching™ practitioners

Ages 13 – 15

Early Teen Phase

The Settling Season

High school is no longer new — and the real work begins. This phase builds structured, self-reliant academic habits while opening the first conversations around subject choices, career curiosity, and what it means to lead your own learning.

The young person begins to understand academics as a tool they choose, not a system they survive. Identity work deepens here — who they are at home, at school, and with peers.

What We Offer at This Phase

Individual Coaching

One-on-one sessions with a licensed Teencoaching™ practitioner — tailored to where each young person is in their identity and academic development

Monthly Group Coaching

Structured monthly group sessions in East London — a community of young people developing together within the same framework

Mindset of Academic Excellence™

Structured Independence — building self-reliant habits, subject awareness, and the identity of a young person who leads their own learning

Teencoached™ Circle

Online monthly membership community — resources, peer community, and ongoing development support between sessions

Residential Retreats

Teen Girls and Teen Boys retreat tracks — immersive 2–3 day experiences with a maximum of 15 participants per track

Own Your Intelligence™

Introductory digital course — exploring what intelligence means for a young African teenager, available on Mayine Indigenous Academy

Ages 16 – 17

Senior Teen Phase

The Building Season

Academic performance, the Experience Model™, and the deliberate construction of a profile that speaks beyond marks. Career direction becomes concrete. The young person is coached to think about who they are becoming — and to begin building evidence of that identity in everything they do.

This is the phase where self-leadership moves from concept to practice. Young people at this stage are beginning to make decisions that will shape the next decade of their lives — and they need an identity foundation strong enough to make those decisions from.

What We Offer at This Phase

Individual Coaching

Focused one-on-one coaching on identity, academic performance, and career direction — building a profile that reflects who this young person truly is

Mindset of Academic Excellence™

Tertiary Readiness — deliberate profile construction, career direction, and the identity work that makes sustained performance possible

Monthly Group Coaching

Peer community sessions in East London — developing collective language around identity, purpose, and direction

Residential Retreats

Teen Girls and Teen Boys retreat tracks — the most intensive entry point for this age group into the Mayine ecosystem

Social Media Intelligence™

Digital intelligence course (Q3 2026) — navigating online identity, internet permanence, and emotional intelligence in digital spaces

Teencoached™ Circle

Online membership community — peer support, digital resources, and ongoing coaching access between formal sessions

Grade 12 · Distinct Programme

Matric Phase

A Season of Its Own

Grade 12 is its own season entirely. This is not about building new foundations — it is about anchoring what is already there and crossing the finish line with focus, identity intact, and results that reflect who this young person truly is.

A distinct coaching approach, designed specifically for the final year of high school. The pressure of matric is real — and our job is to make sure it does not fracture the identity work that has been built over the years before it.

What We Offer at This Phase

Matric-Specific Coaching

A distinct one-on-one coaching programme designed specifically for Grade 12 — anchoring identity and focus through the final year

Mindset of Academic Excellence™

Finishing Strong — not building new foundations, but anchoring what is already there and crossing the finish line with results that reflect who this young person is

Exam & Performance Readiness

Building the psychological and identity readiness for matric examinations — managing pressure, staying grounded, performing from a place of self-belief

Post-Matric Transition Preparation

Beginning the conversation about what comes next — tertiary choices, gap years, and how to carry identity into whatever the next season holds

Ages 18 – 19 · First-Year Students

Post-Matric Phase

The Threshold Season

The shift from high school to campus life is one of the most disorienting transitions a young person faces — new environment, new freedom, new academic expectations, and no one checking in. This phase supports first-year students in carrying their identity and self-leadership practices into higher education.

The transition should strengthen who they are — not fracture it. Academic confidence, campus navigation, and the ability to self-regulate without external structure are the focus — grounded, as always, in indigenous intelligence.

Six-module micro-course ecosystem — exploring indigenous ways of knowing applied to professional, entrepreneurial, and academic contexts

Core Programme

Mindset of Academic
Excellence™

The MAE™ is not a tutoring programme. It is a coaching methodology that builds the inner architecture from which academic performance, self-leadership, and identity emerge — applied across five distinct phases, each with its own season and focus.

When a young person does not believe they are intelligent, no amount of tutoring or academic support will produce lasting results. The MAE™ works at the identity level first — building the mindset, self-belief, and indigenous intelligence framework that makes sustained academic and personal excellence possible. It is delivered across individual coaching, group coaching, and retreat formats, and includes a dedicated parent track.

Group Three

Young Adults

The transition from adolescence into adulthood is where many identity fractures become most visible. Young adults between 18 and 25 are navigating higher education, early career choices, relationship shifts, and the question of what kind of person they want to be — often without a clear sense of who they already are.

Our young adult offering bridges the Teencoaching™ framework into early adult life — combining identity coaching with practical career direction, and grounding both in indigenous intelligence. Whether they came through our teen programmes or are entering the ecosystem for the first time, the work starts in the same place: identity.

Indigenous Intelligence in Business

Six-module micro-course ecosystem exploring indigenous ways of knowing in professional and entrepreneurial contexts — available on Mayine Indigenous Academy

The Family System

Working With Parents

A young person cannot be developed in isolation from the family system that shaped them. Parents are not bystanders in this work — they are active participants. Every behaviour has root causes. Every child belongs to a family. Every family has its own unique development patterns.

Our parent-facing work runs in parallel to the work we do with young people. We support parents in understanding their own patterns, strengthening their relationship with their teenagers, and creating a home environment that supports identity development rather than undermining it.

This includes a dedicated parent track within the Mindset of Academic Excellence™ programme — because a young person's academic mindset is shaped at home long before it shows up in the classroom.

Full Parents Programme

How We Work With Parents

Founder Parenting Circle

A monthly coaching circle facilitated by Vee — a deeply personal, culturally grounded space for parents to do their own work alongside their young people. 6-month commitment.

Mindset of Academic Excellence™ — Parent Track

Understanding Your Teen Girl Through The Mother Wound™

An 8-module course exploring the mother-daughter relationship and how mothers can show up more powerfully for their teenage daughters — available on Mayine Indigenous Academy.

Individual Parent Coaching

One-on-one sessions for parents who want to do their own work — understanding their patterns, strengthening family relationships, and parenting with intention and cultural grounding.

"We do not fix young people. We create the conditions in which they can remember who they already are — and build their entire lives from there."
