Subject Choices

Choosing Grade 9 subjects shapes the doors that stay open through Grade 12 and beyond — yet most teens make this decision with very little real guidance. Teencoaching™ Subject Choices exists to change that, through the Nomveliso Mbanga Teencoaching™ methodology — an indigenous-based approach to human development.

There are two ways to do this work:

Pathway A
Teencoaching™ Subject Choices 1-on-1
  • 3 personalised sessions, not a single sitting
  • Family woven in through homework after every session
  • Full Coaching Summary with Top 3 Career Projections
Pathway B
Teencoaching™ Subject Choices Masterclass
  • Half-day group session, online or in-person
  • Careers Exploration Workbook + Top 3 Career Path Card
  • Parent Support eBook included
Why the 1-on-1 isn't a single session: Real subject choice clarity requires more than one conversation. It takes time to explore who your teen actually is, what they're drawn to, how their family's story shapes (or doesn't shape) their thinking, and how they honestly feel about subjects like Maths — before any career or tertiary requirement is even discussed. One session can only scratch the surface. Three sessions, spaced weekly, give the process room to actually work — and give your teen something to bring home and work through with you in between.

Not sure which path fits?

A two-minute reflection
— not a test.

This isn't about which option is "better," and it isn't about price. It's six quick questions to help you notice what your teen actually needs right now — more space and depth, or broader exposure alongside peers. There's no wrong answer, and you can change your mind any time.

Question 1 of 6
How well does your teen already know what they're drawn to — their strengths, interests, what excites them?
Fairly clear already — they could name a few things if asked
Still figuring it out — this feels like new territory for them
Question 2 of 6
Is there a specific subject — like Maths — that comes with strong feelings, pressure, or anxiety?
Not really — they're fairly neutral about their subjects
Yes — there's something there that probably needs unpacking
Question 3 of 6
How does your teen feel about reflecting on personal questions in a room with peers?
Comfortable — they often open up just as easily in a group
They tend to share more when it's just them and someone they trust
Question 4 of 6
Is there a family conversation about this decision that feels complicated right now — expectations, pressure, or a difference of opinion?
Not really — we're fairly aligned on this
Yes, there's real complexity here worth working through properly
Question 5 of 6
What does your teen mainly need right now?
Broader exposure to careers and options they haven't considered
Deeper one-on-one reflection on who they are and what they want
Question 6 of 6
How much time do you have before a decision is needed?
A single half-day session would work well for our timeline
We have a few weeks — happy to spread this out properly
Skip — I'll decide myself
